Children’s Ministry

Notes From 5/21/08

Children’s Committee (Those present were Amanda, Vince, Krystal, & Kim.)

  • Discussed checking with Adam about corkboard/bulletin board to hang in hall for children’s Bible class work to be displayed.
  • Discussed checking with Melinda about having children take turns (by class) being greeters.
  • Brainstormed ways to get kids more involved in our upcoming nursing home visits.  Ideas were:

1.   Amanda could help kids bake cookies to take a few days before the visit.

Would need to okay with nursing home first-see about any regulations or

special diets of the patients.

2.   Kids could sing Bible hour/kids songs

3.  Have activities kids could bring or work on there with someone (such as a Book

About Me/Book About You with questions to get their answers).

  • Back to School Bash at local park (either Jane St., Garfield, or Liberty Park)

Wear Agape shirts

KLVV or Christian music playing

Hand out flyers in surrounding neighborhood

Pinata

Hand out pencils with “Agape” on them

MoonJump

Booths (balloon animals/ring toss/face paint/tattoo/cakewalk-Wal-mart cakes)

Hot Dogs/cokes

Banner signs at the park week before event

Port-a-potties?

Drawings for prizes (movie rentals, backpack of school supplies, mini golf for family, skating, family bowling, movie passes, braums, sno cone tickets)

Notes From 4/27/08

  • Curriculum-Adam & Kim will check on curr. for 3rd-5th graders at Master’s Touch (Kevin) and Godly Play that was recommended by Scott.
  • Ages- It was recommended in the fall (for at least the next year) to change the Bible class ages to ages 4-7 and grades 3rd-5th.
  • Curriculum Goals- It was recommended to have goals/foundations for the classes that could be measured for the children by reward charts, mountains, etc. The child’s name could be moved along as he/she came closer to that goal, such as certain memory verses or knowing the Books of the Bible.
  • Greeters- Melinda will be in charge of rotating the 4-7’s and the 3rd-5th grade classes as greeters on Sunday mornings. The class and teacher could be let out of class 5 min. early to greet, hand out bulletins, open doors.
  • Sunday nursery- Check with Angela about having nursery workers know to be back there for the whole service. Maybe an e-mail sent out to check for additional people to put on the rotation.
  • Hallway corkboard- (Adam will buy, Steve will mount, Tammy will decorate) A corkboard can be mounted in the hall leading to the playground that will be available for teachers to highlight a child’s work from class(1 child/class or Bible Hour). To make it more kid-friendly, we could check with Kate to see if she could paint a mural on that wall or have each child’s painted handprint with their name on the wall.
  • KFC-Amanda will check with members to see if Mon. or Thur. would work better for this program and who would like to coordinate and be helpers. Adam will be working on a list of service ideas that could be used for this. (I’m getting concerned we might be spreading ourselves too thin starting this right now. Would it be a better idea to combine these service ideas with the Community Presence we are doing on the 2nd Wed. of the month. The kids could invite friends to come help serve the community with our families-not separating the kids from us as we serve? For example one of our Wed. could be numbering the families off (people without families could join with a family) to where certain number of them took their children to specific nursing homes to sing or bring goodies.)
